SUFFOLK, VA — Mary Hill, candidate for Suffolk City Council, issued the following statement today regarding the recent enforcement action and arrest conducted by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Sentara BelleHarbour medical campus on Bridge Road:

"As a candidate for City Council and a member of this community who worships directly across the street at Temple Beth El, the recent footage of the arrest outside Sentara BelleHarbour is deeply concerning to me and to our neighbors," Hill said.

"While immigration enforcement is strictly a federal matter outside the jurisdiction of municipal government, the safety, trust, and peace of mind of Suffolk residents are local priorities. Medical facilities must remain safe environments where individuals can seek critical care without fear or disruption."

"I join our community leaders in calling for a thorough and transparent federal review of the force utilized during this incident. As your representative on City Council, my focus will always be on protecting the safety and dignity of our neighborhoods, ensuring open communication, and maintaining trust between our residents and local leadership."
